Is the NBN down? Check in three steps

Step 1

Check NBN Co's network issues page. It covers the physical network for every provider. If your suburb is listed, that's your answer: it's an NBN outage, your provider already knows, and there's nothing to fix at your end.

Step 2

Not listed? Check your provider's own status page below. Provider-side faults (authentication, DNS, their own network) never show on NBN Co's map.

Step 3

Nothing on either? It's probably your equipment. Power-cycle the NBN box and router (off 30 seconds, NBN box on first), then work through our 5 step fix. Back online but feels slow? Run the speed test to check you're getting what you pay for.

Outages keep happening?

One outage a year is the network; one a month is your provider. How quickly providers detect faults, communicate and escalate varies a lot, and it shows in our review data. Our most reliable NBN providers ranking is built from real customer reviews of exactly this, and switching takes about 15 minutes; the current deals page is a fine place to land.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if the NBN is down in my area?

NBN Co's network issues page first (covers every provider), then your provider's status page, since provider-side faults don't show on NBN Co's map. Both are linked above.

Why does NBN Co's map say no outage but my internet is down?

The fault is probably provider-side or in your own equipment. Check your provider's status page, then power-cycle the NBN box and router.

Who do I call about an NBN outage?

Always your retail provider, not NBN Co. NBN Co doesn't take consumer fault calls; your provider logs the fault with them. Numbers for every provider are in our contact directory.
